Wash Day

I painted this in oils, with a underpainting in acrylics blocking in my dark shapes and background colors. When I painted the oils over the acrylics I scraped off some of the oils, revealing the under-colors, creating interesting edges and affects. My inspiration came from the photo I shot in the Caribbean a number of years ago. I love how cute she was dressed to be doing laundry, but I also like to think about the contrast her life holds compared to most of ours in the US.
