Skies have always fascinated me, and they really can only be captured in their FULL GLORY of color is ON THE SPOT, that is "en plein aire"! AND painting in the latter part of the day, is when drama happens! Not only in the sky, if it is cloud ladened, but also what may happen, should the sun show itself, before it kisses good night!
I was blessed to have gotten to this location, in time to make a dynamic design/layout, where what would happen! With the wheat field, if in total shadow, would have been ok, but at the end of my painting, the sun broke thru, and allowed me to capture how it kissed this massive field, and thus giving the outcropping of trees hugging the small amount of "manmade" objects, seem that much more special.
Being a rather large painting I used large brushes, I love just loading the brush and delivering the spontaneous strokes, to give the feeling of urgency, and the quickly moving drama, saying goodbye to that stormy day, as the wind brought one last touch of drama!
