Frippery

A fanciful studio painting inspired by the fall colors of the sumac shrub. This painting was a fun exploration of color - specifically red. Red is a color I rarely use in landscape painting, but the close up patterns allowed an overall treatment, which I loved. As a sewer, I appreciate textiles and this painting would make a beautiful cotton skirt! The swirling movement of the leaves inspired the title, which in turn inspired my decision to add a "fritillary" butterfly to my "Frippery."
