Hilltop Meadow

An invented landscape based on several plein air studies. As I began to flatten and deepen the plane, areas began to suggest mountains, a river, cultivated fields and trees. I began with a pale yellow overall tint and an underpainting in red. This red became a challenge for a typically green landscape, but I was determined to keep it. I learned a lot by letting the painting speak to me over time.
