Like a bit of mystery in your artwork? This painting offers something like it.
As you observe the scene, and gaze at the abandoned railroad, you can't help but wonder what it must've been like to travel through this forest on that train, the sounds that echoed throughout, what people were doing as they went through, what sort of train it was, its like this past scenery replays through the mind of the viewer, taking them back to this moment when the railway was alive and in service.
As for why the tracks are still there, we won't know for sure, maybe they're heritage protected, which is much more likely, as removing them usually isn't expensive, but regardless of why they're still in place, they provide a nice reminder of what used to be, a piece of history for all to see, and painting this has immortalized this particular scene on canvas.
