The marshlands are one of my favorite subject matters to paint. I love the variety of weather and the serene tranquility of standing amongst the reeds and watching the birds feed along the slick mud flats. I wanted to take this peaceful scene and bring more drama to it by working with a bolder color palette to create a dreamlike mood. The bright hues of yellows and oranges bring a warmth to this scene against the cool notes in the trees and creates a soothing quality to this painting.
