This studio painting was inspired by my first experience in the desert. On a backpacking trip in Joshua Tree National Park I was fortunate to have the opportunity to do some plein air painting in 49 Palms Oasis. The presence of these clusters of palms in such an alien landscape felt surreal. Using my studies, photographs, and memory, I aimed to recreate this visual experience.
